Need Dentures? Here Are Some Options

Dentures and Partial Dentures Albuquerque, NMDentures can give patients a second chance at life when it comes to having a full set of teeth. Dentures allow patients to eat favorite foods, speak clearly and be able to smile without fear of embarrassment. Most people do not think of dentures in terms of the amount of impact it is going to have on their life. However, not having teeth can have a drastic impact on a patient's life in more ways than simply being unable to chew food or speak clearly.

The effects of missing teeth on the rest of the body

When one looses multiple adult teeth, the facial muscles begin to sag and can give the person an older appearance. The sagging in the face is a direct result of the teeth no longer being in place to provide a sense of structure. People who lose teeth typically find that they cannot eat all the food they enjoy, having to control and change what they eat on a constant basis.

While it is important to be healthy, these restrictions are completely unnecessary. A dentist can fit patients with dentures that are a perfect fit to effectively replace the lost teeth.  Patients can gain back all the functionality and appearance they are missing out on with a lack of teeth.

Dentures are fundamentally one of the most simple replacements or restorations that a patient can choose. As a skilled dentist, we are able to fit them for virtually any patient who wants a simple solution to missing teeth.

Various forms of dentures

There are three kinds of dentures that we use:

  • Conventional dentures
  • Immediate dentures
  • Overdentures

Each of these types serves a different purpose and applies to a variety of circumstances. The most common of these is the conventional dentures. This is due to the fact that conventional dentures are what most patients opt for as they begin to lose their teeth to old age, disease, or accidents.

Conventional dentures

Conventional dentures are fully removable prosthetics that are customized by the laboratory in accordance with the specifications from a dentist. The design of dentures makes them comfortable and removable when they need to be. This convenience is crucial for patients who need new teeth. Sometimes, the process of placing conventional dentures can take several months since we typically wait for the mouth to fully heal from tooth loss.

Immediate dentures

By measuring the teeth and acquiring all necessary information at an earlier meeting, we can place immediate dentures on the same day that we remove the remaining teeth. When one visits for a tooth extraction, we already have a set of immediate dentures waiting for the patient. A patient will not leave the office with no teeth, rather he or she will leave with a new set of teeth with immediate dentures.

Overdentures

We use overdentures for patients who still have usable and savable teeth left in their mouth. We do not want to remove teeth that we can save and will place this denture over the remaining teeth. Overdentures give you new teeth, without having to remove the other original teeth that are still functioning.

If you are in need of dentures or interested in more information, do not hesitate to call us for details.
