Teeth Straightening Options to Consider

If you are looking into teeth straightening options, consider visiting our clinic for a consultation. We can examine your teeth and determine the exact position of each tooth. Through an examination and X-rays, we will begin to understand what needs to take place to straighten your teeth and enhance your smile.

Next, we will answer any questions and go over various treatment options to help you decide which one works best for you. We understand that this is a highly personal decision and will do our best to make that choice easier.

Consider these teeth straightening options

There are multiple ways to straighten teeth. The most effective option will depend entirely on the current position of a patient's teeth and jaw. By considering budget and lifestyle, it is possible to make a comprehensive treatment plan. Here are some options to consider.

Clear aligners

Rising in popularity, aligners are perhaps the most convenient way to straighten teeth. The aligners put pressure on the teeth and move them into the correct position over time. However, the aligners are removable. Patients need to remove the aligners when brushing teeth and eating. Thus, patients can continue with their normal routine and lifestyle with a few minor adjustments.

Essentially, patients can wear them for the majority of the day, take them out at meal time and place them in a plastic case and then put them back in after teeth have been brushed and the aligners rinsed. It is that simple and easy to do. If clear aligners are kept clean, they will remain discreet and nearly invisible throughout the treatment process. They are replaced around every two weeks which also makes it easier to use this method.

Braces

Braces are the traditional method for straightening teeth and they are used because they are highly effective and reliable. There are two types of braces. Metal braces are more traditional and generally used for younger children and teens. However, adults can benefit from wearing them as well. Clear ceramic braces use similar methods but are discreet and difficult to see because they blend in with the natural teeth.

The process of straightening teeth with braces is the same regardless of whether they are metal or ceramic. We secure a bracket to the surface of each tooth, thread a wire through the brackets and secure it in place with rubber bands. Over the course of the treatment, we will need to adjust and replace the wires so that the teeth continue moving in the correct position. The braces can come off when teeth are in the correct position and the jaw aligned.
